Comments on: Nokia N97 vs Samsung Omnia HD i8910

i want to get a new phone. can you tell mw witch of the 2 phones is the best. i am from romania and the phones have the same value in our money. i have a nokia 5800 i don`t know if i should get the samsung…can you help me?

Some wrong information!!!

Here’s what I have learnt about the N97 and i8910:

1. Internal memory of i8910 is either 8GB or 16GB, based on what the user prefers.
2. N97 has 128 MB RAM and i8910 has 256MB
3. N97 has a 600 MHz Corex processor taking care of Apps and Graphics, i8910 has a 600Mhz processor for Apps and another ~433 MHz dedicated processor for Graphics
4. i8910 has an onscreen full QWERTY keyboard. And the one with the latest firmware is great to use, i don’t miss the physical keypad.
5. There are no quality issues i faced, built is excellent.
6. Camera quality is better than N97 and even Satio (check out Phone Arena and other such sites)
7. New firmware has gotten rid of the call quality and audio recording quality is good now.
8. It has kinetic scrolling
9. GPS reciever in this phone is much more sensitive than on the N97
10. Screen is a lot more sensitive and much brighter than N87
11. Supported Networks on i8910: HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s / HSDPA 7.2 Mbit/s, EDGE/GPRS Class 12 Quad Band (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900), UMTS Tri Band (900 / 1900 / 2100MHz) there are very few networks going to 850 MHz 3G

12. I haven’t noticed any reception problems on i8910.

But beware! If you’re one of those who’s used to using keypads, stay away!! This phone is full touch, so you will have to adapt to using an online keypad. But hey, that’s nothing particular of this phone. It’ll be a similar experience on the 5800 express music as well. Just that this phone has a much, much better touch sensitivity.

I tried both phones for a month, N97 and i8910 and i chose to use i8910.

Every detail i have entered here, can be verified, just google it.

hey, I think somebody might read a few articles:

1. there are 2 versions of samsung omnia hd – the more expensive version /still cheaper than shitty nokia/ is capable of storing 48 gigs /16 built + 32GB card/. So I think its more than shitty nokias 42, even when its not a big difference. But if somebody wants to play with numbers, here you go…

2. the camera /static + hd movies/ has no competition worldwide and thats a fact, except the video sound that can be fixed by firmware update – takes 5 minutes…

3. Combination – dual core CORTEX + new Symbian version is simply perfect, with other outstanding samsung parametres incl. RAM, ROM, AMOLED display and system speed benchmarks clearly show that Samsung is just years in advance of elderly “always the same” Nokia software + hardware.

4. Samsung gives away free virtual drumkit symbian application:)

At first, i bought a Nokia N97 (Black). It was good overall, but when I heard about the Samsung I8910, it got me thinking. Then, i decided to get the new Samsung I8910 16GB. Had the phone for a little over 3 months. It was great – runs fast, 8MP camera, HD recording, large AMOLED display and so forth. But after awhile, I decided to go back to my old Nokia N97.

….Here’s why…

Samsung designed a phone with top hardware specs (Fast CPU, 8MP, HD…etc) However, it lacks in its fundamental features of what a phone is all about. Call quality and reception. This is the basic 2 function of what a phone should have. This is why Nokia leads the market share world wide for many years. The call quality on most Nokia phone are top notch and it shows. Nokia never ignored the basic fundamentals of designing a phone. The Samsing I8910 call quality was not up to par and was not natural. I receive comments that sounded like i was talking from a can. It sounded too tingy…no base….and the sound wasnt full.
In terms of reception and especially if you live in the US, it is not as good as Nokia. On top of that, 3g was spotty on the I8910. It only has 1900 band which only works on AT&T. To make things worse, the 1900 band will eventually be replaced with 850 band. Nokia N97 NAM has both bands 850/1900. Maybe the lack of the 850 band on the I8910 was the cause of poor signals? With my Nokia N97 – I have 3G everywhere I go and with great call quality and reception something that Samsung did not concentrate on. Instead, they jumped onto other features.

Also, bear in mind that the Nokia has a Single ARM 11 CPU. This cpu is very dated but is cheap and this is why it is in many phones. The Omnia HD has a dual-core ARM Cortex A8 600mhz CPU (same in Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS) that is reported to be 2-3x faster than the ARM 11. It also has a dedicated graphics processor so you can expect (and find videos of it playing on Youtube) quality iPhone-like 3D games. Also, although the interface may seem a bit slower, consider the size of the screen and how many pixels it has to move around along with the much, much, much nicer interface. I left symbian behind 2 years ago mainly due to its ugly interface and am now coming back since companies like Sony and Samsung are putting their own interfaces over the ugly Symbian’s.

Also you state: “The Omnia HD mobiles has a very good internal memory capacity which is of about 256MB but this mobile is capable of extending the memory up to 32GB but the N97 mobiles are capable to hold data of about 42GB. Everyone will feel hard to fill the memory of such capacities and so this criterion will not help the user to choose the mobile between these two models.” You are correct when you say that everyone will find it hard to fill the massive amount of memory…but I assume you speak of the Nokia N97 only, right? Remember the Omnia HD records in HD and can use up every bit of the 32GB of memory when considering putting movies, full music collection, etc. on it.

Well first of all the Samsung i8910 HD does have a full qwerty key board because ive used it myself it has three different writing options you can use the qwerty or the alphanumeric keypad or the hadwriting option. And the samsung has built in 8gb and the camera is much better than the nokias one. so if your going to buy any mobile buy the samsung. Its the best phone out right now. Some might say what about the iphone 3G S but the iphone has a rubbish camera and the battery doesnt last very long. Unlike the samsung i got mine to last just over a week without rechargind it and the touch screen is very good.

So dont waste your money on the nokia get the samsung and be merry. lol
